From Hathersage up onto Stanage Edge and back again is one the the rightly classic shortish Peak District walks. I have done it many times but do not weary of it – it allows loads of small variations. Today I went up past the church and on up by Carr Head Farm with its vineyard and colourful outdoor décor across to the high road called the Dale that curves up and round below the edge. After it turns and rises to Callow Bank there is a short path up the trig point. II followed the Edge for about a mile. It was busy today, this beautiful January Saturday. Countless people, some playing with paragliders. I took a path down through the woods past the public toilets and North Lees house and so homet.
